Born Yano Zwinnen in Antwerp, Belgium, in 1983,
Crucial Alphonso got to know reggae from birth because both his parents listened to the
music. His father - known as Lui Lucky - was in fact a reggae DJ at the time.
In his teens, Alphonso got hooked on dub. When he was only fifteen, he started toasting on dubs,
and a few years later - supported by his friends - he took his first steps in music making.
Alphonso specializes in powerful instrumental/dub steppers: uncompromising sound system music
that captures and delivers a particular vibe that is not easily explained in words. In these
last few years, he has recorded several dub plates for various roots/dub sound
systems. 'Visionary Creation' is his debut album released by
Dubkey in June 2009.
