Joel Eriksson - better known as Doobie - was born in
1983 in Uppsala, the reggae capital of Scandinavia. The Uppsala Reggae Festival is the
biggest yearly reggae event in Scandinavia, and many reggae artists, musicians and sound
systems are based in this Swedish city.
Inspired by the festival and the modern roots recordings of artists like Lutan Fyah, Jah Mason and Capleton, Doobie started making reggae rhythms on his computer in 2005. The
absolute majority of Doobie's productions are strictly digital, but most of his rhythms
still have a 70s or early 80s feel. His is 00s music, but it is firmly rooted in the
classic reggae sound.
With the help of the internet - especially sites like Reggae Dubwise and MySpace - Doobie has met and worked with
countless reggae artists. A number of these collaborations were featured
on 'All Kinda Wall', Doobie's debut album released by Dubkey in
October 2009. The rhythms from the album were released as 'All
Kinda Riddims' in January 2010.
